U13s Get Irish Cup Weekend Off To A Winning Start

Congratulations to our U13 National League squad who bounced back from Monday’s disappointment to win the Subway National League U13 Plate tonight at a wet Crumlin Leisure Centre.

The Wee Sky Blues got off to a difficult start when Cliftonville went ahead on 9 minutes but soon got a foothold in the game and started to impose themselves. Despite creating a number of chances Ballymena quickly found themselves 3 down when Cliftonville scored a quick double with goals coming on the 21st and 23rd minute.

Manager Stevie Hawe worked his magic at half time and the boys came out with only one thing on their mind in the second half.

The excellent Cliftonville goalkeeper kept the Sky Blues at bay in the early stages of the half before Corey Vance found the net on 40 minutes.

An own goal on 42 minutes was no more than the Ballymena pressure deserved and Man of the Match, Luke Hawe, pulled the Sky Blues level on 50 minutes.

The pressure proved too much for Cliftonville and Ballymena deservedly took the lead through the impressive Alex Houston five minutes later.

A second goal for the tireless Corey Vance sealed the victory and started the celebrations for the good Sky Blue support.

Attention now switches to the First Team and the Irish Cup Final tomorrow afternoon. Hopefully this evenings silverware is just the start of Sky Blue celebrations this weekend.
